]]> Wed, 23 Jul 2025 11:40:04 GMT https://www.hamilton-school.co.uk/news/?pid=29&nid=2&storyid=173 <![CDATA[ Year 7 Transition Updates ]]> https://www.hamilton-school.co.uk/news/?pid=29&nid=2&storyid=170 The week beginning 23 June saw our new Yr 7 students for September invited in to participate in a variety of Transition sessions, including sessions of cooking, outdoor education, art and PE. Students also had the opportunity to complete baseline assessments and input into their Student Passports, which will allow all staff to familiarise themselves with our newest young people. With girls being introduced to the Hamilton community for the first time, this was also a chance for the school to experience having female students onsite. The young people engaged with each other, as well as the various activities, respectfully and enthusiastically, with friendships beginning to grow and a familiarity of Hamilton ways blossoming also.

Transition for our new Yr 7 students then continued on Wednesday 2 July, with a barbecue and presentation to welcome both the new students and their families into the Hamilton community, with one of our Yr 9 students, volunteering to stay after school and help cook for the event. A fun time was had by all, and students were farewelled until their new start in September, to begin with a tutor meeting for individual students on 3 September. We look forward to greeting them again then and getting their Hamilton journey underway.

]]> Mon, 7 Jul 2025 10:30:17 GMT https://www.hamilton-school.co.uk/news/?pid=29&nid=2&storyid=170 <![CDATA[ Eco Day ]]> https://www.hamilton-school.co.uk/news/?pid=29&nid=2&storyid=172 Hamilton School delivered an ECO-focused day today, to educate and inspire students about environmental sustainability, climate action, and their role as stewards of the planet. By engaging students in hands-on activities, workshops, and discussions, the day aimed to:

  • Raise awareness of current environmental challenges such as climate change, pollution, and biodiversity loss.
  • Promote sustainable thinking and encourage environmentally responsible behaviours in daily life.
  • Empower students to become agents of change within their schools, families, and communities.
  • Connect learning to real-world issues, fostering critical thinking and problem solving around ecological topics.
  • Encourage collaboration and innovation, allowing students to explore eco-friendly solutions and green technologies.

The day provided a meaningful opportunity to embed environmental education into the broader school culture, nurturing a generation that values and protects the natural world.

Throughout the day, students were divided into 5 groups, and they followed a programme of 5 activities: 

  • Preparing a Gardening Area
  • An ECO food activity
  • Bug Hotel Building
  • Recycled Art Challenge
  • Making Seed Bombs and Bird Feeders

It was a fantastic day and the teamwork and camaraderie between the students was evident. Prizes were given for the most engaged student, best team player and best work produced during each session.

]]> Fri, 4 Jul 2025 11:23:05 GMT https://www.hamilton-school.co.uk/news/?pid=29&nid=2&storyid=172 <![CDATA[ Year 11 Trip ]]> https://www.hamilton-school.co.uk/news/?pid=29&nid=2&storyid=171 Our Year 11s who sat GCSEs on site here at Hamilton enjoyed a wonderful celebration trip today. Travelling by train from Reading to London, our students visited shops; had a walking tour of Oxford Street, Regent Street, Piccadilly Circus, Leicester Square and Trafalgar Square; enjoyed refreshments in St. James’ Park; spent time sightseeing at Buckingham Palace, Westminster and Borough Market; and saw the Tower of London and Tower Bridge. A fantastic way to celebrate the end of a tough exam period! Well done to all of our year 11s, and we wish you luck for your next steps.
